Let Love Grow: February's Birchbox Review

Let Love Grow: February's Birchbox Review

If you’ve read my other posts, you’ll know that I’ve been subscribed to Birchbox for quite some time now. Since September 2017, to be exact. It is one of my favourite times of the month because receiving those five products is like a little Christmas gift to myself. The best boxes are those that have products that become part of my every day routine and have genuinely had an impact on my skin or make-up look.

For anyone who doesn’t know, Birchbox is a beauty subscription where you pay £10 per month (plus shipping) for five products to arrive in a pretty little box. These tend to be a mixture of make-up and skincare products. Most months, you’re able to pick a certain type or colour product - for example, this month you got to choose which colour eyeshadow you received. It’s perfect if you’re someone who likes to learn about new products as it gradually introduces you to things you may not have tried before. I definitely think that since trying Birchbox, my skills and interests in beauty have certainly grown.

So, what’s in the box?

Luxie 205 Tapered Blending Brush - RRP £11

I do love receiving new tools in my Birchbox as I can add them to my growing collection. I like the colour of this blending brush and it is certainly soft and fluffy. I haven’t used this yet as I will save it until I wear eyeshadow but I can 100% appreciate receiving this type of product because they can sometimes be expensive when buying alone.

Purely based on this product without having used it yet, I’d rate it 7/10.

Sebamed Clear Face Mattifying Cream - RRP £5.69

I was so incredibly happy to receive this one in my box this month as I totally love trying products that can help with both my acne and oily patches! This cream can be added to your skincare routine and is supposed to help balance the pH levels in your skin. It helps by mattifying the skin and regulating sebum production. I have used this a few times since receiving it this week and generally I’m happy with it. It helped to make my skin less shiny, which is something I’m glad about. I used this in conjunction with my moisturiser, making sure to give both products time to sink in.

At this moment in time, I’d give this product 9/10, only because I haven’t yet seen the long-term effects of it. Below you can see my bare face after having completed my full skincare routine, along with this product.

LOC Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Eclipse - RRP £8

I haven’t really been wearing eyeshadows or eyeliner recently because it’s a pain to get off with my eyelash extensions. However, I still totally appreciate beautiful colours and save them for special occasions. This shimmer eyeshadow is a nice texture and quite glittery. It is a little darker than I was expecting, so I wish I had chosen the lighter colour, but nevertheless it’s still beautiful! Would I pay £8 for this product? Yes, probably. As long as it lasted well throughout the day.

I’d give this product 7/10, mainly because I do think it has good pigment but I have had other make-up products in my box that I’ve preferred.

Anatomicals No One Gets Flirty With The Dirty Pick Me Up Body Wash - RRP £4

The designs and descriptions on all Anatomicals products is what I love most about the brand. They’re really clever with words. This product isn’t bad - it lathers up well and has a light fragrance. However, the smell isn’t amazing. That could be down to personal preference however, as I do love sweeter smelling shower gel.

Overall, I’d rate this product 6/10, as other cheaper products do the same thing but regardless, the branding is brilliant.

Coco & Eve Like A Virgin Super Nourishing Coconut & Fig Hair Masque - RRP £9

I’ll be honest, when I receive hair products in my box I don’t use them very often. However, having heard good things about this product I decided to give it a whirl. This past week I’ve really been into plaiting my hair overnight and then having it 80s style during the day. However, after a couple of days of doing this I noticed my hair needed a little TLC. So, not only did I use lots of conditioner but I gave the Coco & Eve product a try too. I have to say, my hair smelt lovely afterwards and was super soft. Luckily I have enough left for one more application (despite have thick hair) so I’ll save it for another week. I 100% recommend this as it doesn’t make your hair greasy, only replenishes and revitalises it.

I’d give this product 9/10, I’m not sure whether I’d spend £9 on it separately for only two applications but it is a great product. Below you can see my hair after using this product. I have semi-straightened my hair but it is definitely softer than usual after straightening!

The box this month wasn’t too bad - I feel like I have received two products that I will LOVE and perhaps will become part of my beauty routine. The design of the box this month was also lovely! I used to separate all of my make-up into the pretty Birchbox boxes until I replaced them with a more sturdy alternative. It does break my heart a little when I feel it’s time to throw the boxes away.

I hope you’re all having a fab weekend and have enjoyed reading my review!

Love, Ali x
